Aside from the design, I think the metal you choose for the ring is the most important decision you'll make when picking out a weeding ring. Personally, I'm a skeptic when it comes to alternative metals like tungsten and titanium because they can't be re-sized or removed in an emergency. If you want a durable metal but don't want to deal with the hassles that come with getting non-precious metals, platinum is the most durable--silver gets dinged up pretty easy and gold is only about half as strong as platinum.

Platinum really is the premium metal for wedding bands. A jeweler might say that it scratches easy, but it doesn't lose mass, so you can get a platinum wedding band refinished over and over.

Compare all the common metals for wedding bands here - http://www.novelldesignstudio.com/choosing_your_metal/index.php.

I think you'll find that platinum might be the best choice!
